At Ricoh we don't believe in looking at one single aspect of our products and calling it "environmentally friendly". We look at the entire product lifecycle. We have strived to reduce the environmental impact of the production of our products through eliminating landfill, economising power consumption and strictly limiting hazardous substances. When our products reach our customers, we ensure they are running at their most efficient with cutting edge technology and run consumable recycling programmes. Finally, we strive to have all machines and consumables returned to our unique recycling facility where they are given a new lease of life or broken in to raw materials and recycled.
Since 2005 Ricoh have reduced the environmental impact of our products throughout their lifecycle by over 15% in 4 years. This has been through a number of initiatives at the factory and manufacture level.

In order to minimise the impact of the products when they are in customer use, we concentrate on developing technologies that save resources and encourage reuse and recycling.
To this effect Ricoh operates 11 R&D centres and laboratories in the US, Europe, China and Japan, employing more than 3,500 scientists, researchers and engineers. Our R&D centres and laboratories are uniquely organised by focusing on one specific discipline in each center. One of these centres is specific for Environmental Research. The centre conducts research and development of environmental technology to create a reduce, reuse, recycle, society. It focuses on the development of futuristic design and production systems, image development systems, devices, simulation, and measurement technology for energy efficiency and recycling.
