The lifecycle management of IT assets is an important issue with an ever increasing focus on environmental policies and legal obligations for corporate customers and small businesses alike.

Insight Client Solutions provides clients with an efficient, reliable and cost effective means of IT equipment disposal that complies with all relevant government legislation, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Data Protection Act 1998.

Assessment of Disposal Requirement

Insight Client Solutions will carry out a full assessment of the disposal requirement, using an asset inventory detailing approximate specification and quantities of equipment to be retired. From this list, and through our extensive broker channel, we will advise as to whether there is any residual value in the equipment, which will be used to offset associated retirement costs.

Equipment allocated for resale is then subjected to a complete functionality test and wherever cost effective, equipment will be repaired and prepared for resale.

Disposal Process

All hard drives are destroyed or data-erased as appropriate and company references and security markings are removed from equipment. In the event that security markings cannot be removed, equipment will automatically be disposed of.

Permanent Data Removal

The only way to permanently destroy data, without physically destroying the hard disk, is by multiple overwriting of the data by generating and recording random characters across the entire surface of the drive, resulting in all data being destroyed and file sizes reset to zero.

In the event that a hard disk cannot be data-erased, or if it is below 1.2Gb in size, it will be physically destroyed prior to being forwarded for recycling.

Recycling

In line with key environmental policies, Insight Client Solutions aims to recycle as much equipment and reuse as many components as possible. Any remaining equipment is forwarded to an authorised recycling centre where it is crushed and any remaining metals and plastics are segregated accordingly. A report detailing mass of metals and/or materials retrieved can be provided upon request.

Throughout this process, Insight Client Solutions provides clients with comprehensive asset reports with full details of all equipment, ensuring an accurate audit trail and ease of asset management.
