Reconciliation Services

Software compliance is an increasingly important issue for clients. It is imperative for organisations to understand what software is deployed and equally important to understand exactly what software is actually used within an organisation before making any investments or changes.

Overview, Offerings and Benefits

Overview

A Software Asset Management Solution can answer these questions once employed, but this does not collate past information to determine the current licensing status. Insight's License Reconciliation Service (LRS) can deliver this visibility.

Offerings

The LRS process involves comparing the installed and used software products with existing software licence entitlement, providing comprehensive reports and recommended actions to ensure full compliance through the following SAM steps:

  • Inventory
As part of the LRS process, Insight Client Solutions helps you achieve a high quality technical inventory. Insight also helps you collate all the license information within the company, usually starting with the purchase history information.
  • Reconciliation
This stage is carried out in two steps: (i) Consolidating all the license information to the usable licenses (ii) Reconciling usable licenses with the installed software products. This reconciliation takes into consideration all of the licensing intricacies which can exist (for example Up-/Downgrade and Technology guarantee).
  • Preliminary Report
The results of the reconciliation stage are then collated into a report and Insight will provide advice on how best to address any gaps in your software compliance which are now visible.
  • Consolidation
The consolidation phase involves the client implementing the agreed actions in-house.
  • Second Reconciliation - Final Report
After updating the data, Insight Client Solutions will perform a second reconciliation and produce a final report to accurately document your compliancy status and provide the basis to procure additional licenses if required.
  • Vendor Acceptance
Many clients require certification about compliance status. All of the major software vendors accept Insight Client Solution's LRS process as proof of being licensed correctly and some will certify this status officially.

Benefits

There are three major benefit areas of the LRS process:

Transparency

  • Knowing your exact licensing status
  • Having a base for implementing a SAM solution

Financial Aspects

  • Having the knowledge to negotiate new licence contracts
  • Providing the opportunity to allocate licences between subsidiaries
  • Purchasing only the licences you really require

Legal aspects

  • Having a documented base to show the exact licence situation

These offerings are coupled with Insight's proven project methodology that has been tailored and refined to provide best practice implementation from the review and planning stages through to design, implementation and support.
