Decisions around licensing, cost, and vendor strategy are set to become more strategic with the introduction of E7. Although E7 is positioned as a premium SKU, it is more cost-effective than purchasing E5, Copilot, Entra Suite, and Agent 365 as separate components. As a result, E7 is expected to become the default “AI-first” tier for enterprises that are either renewing their E5 licences or considering rolling out Copilot, and it may also lead to the displacement of some third-party security and governance solutions.
CFO Impact: Finance and procurement teams will need to rework their Microsoft estate strategy (E3/E5/E7 mix, Copilot coverage) and build a business case that balances incremental license cost against expected productivity, automation and vendor consolidation benefits.
