Cloud Vendor News & Updates:

1: Usage-Based Billing for Microsoft 365 Copilot Business Postponed to Q1 2027:

Microsoft has delayed the planned change to enable usage-based billing by default for new Microsoft 365 Copilot Business licenses from December 1, 2026, to Q1 2027.

Once the change takes effect, all new Microsoft 365 Copilot Business licenses purchased through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program will include usage-based billing enabled by default.
Microsoft is introducing this change to make it easier to access services such as Copilot Cowork, Work IQ APIs, and GitHub Copilot Harness.

Key details:

  • Applies to: New purchases of Microsoft 365 Copilot Business (standalone and bundles) through CSP.
  • Usage-based billing: Pay-as-you-go is the default billing configuration.
  • The default spending limit will be 4,000 Copilot Credits per user/month, which can be adjusted by the customer’s admin.
  • New timing: The previously announced December 1, 2026 start date has been delayed to Q1 2027.

We will keep you up to date as Microsoft shares further information and confirms the new effective date.

2: Microsoft 365 Copilot purchasing updates:

Beginning on December 1, 2026, new Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Business offers will no longer require you to have a qualifying Microsoft 365 base subscription at the time of purchase.

Pricing remains consistent: The new offers will have new product and SKU IDs but will be priced the same as the current offers.

Current offers are being renamed: Existing offers that require a qualifying base subscription are now identified with “(add-on)” in their names and will reach end of sale for new CSP purchases on December 1, 2026. Existing subscriptions can continue to renew and adjust seat quantities.

Existing subscriptions aren't impacted: Current subscriptions don't need to migrate or reassign licenses, and existing pricing, renewal terms, auto-renew settings, and service remain unchanged. Due to the renaming of the current offers, existing subscriptions will see “(add-on)” attached to the subscription name in the Microsoft 365 Admin center and in buy.insight.com.

Copilot capabilities aren't changing: The update changes how clients can purchase Copilot, not the underlying Copilot capabilities. Copilot experiences will continue to depend on the Microsoft 365 apps and services for which customers are licensed.

3: Azure Promotions Are Now Available in CSP:

New Azure consumption promotions are now available through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program, providing eligible customers with discounted pay-as-you-go (PAYG) pricing for selected Azure services and workloads.

The promotions focus on new Azure consumption across data and AI scenarios, including database modernization, Microsoft Fabric, and AI application services.

Available promotions include:

*Azure Database Modernization: Up to 30% off eligible Azure database PAYG usage for customers migrating on-premises SQL Server workloads to Azure.

* Fabric for Microsoft 365 Customers: Up to 20% off Microsoft Fabric PAYG capacity for eligible Microsoft 365 customers who are new to Fabric.

* Fabric for Azure Database Customers: Up to 20% off Microsoft Fabric PAYG capacity for eligible Azure database customers with no previous Fabric spend.

* App PaaS for Foundry Customers: Up to 15% off eligible Azure application platform as a service (PaaS) PAYG usage for Microsoft Foundry customers.

* Data Services for Foundry Customers: Up to 15% off eligible Azure data services PAYG usage for Microsoft Foundry customers.
