AWS re:Invent 2023 was a spectacular event that brought together around 70,000 attendees from clients and AWS partners globally. The conference showcased the latest and greatest in AWS services and solutions, with a special focus on AI and large language models this year.
Insight, as a sponsor of the conference, had global representation at the event and met with customers and partners to discuss how AWS can help accelerate change and innovation.
The first takeaway from the conference was the scale of AWS - with hundreds of new announcements on AWS’s 200+ services. This provides a great opportunity for clients to optimize their public cloud investment, but it can also be overwhelming. That’s why Insight is here to help. We have the expertise and experience to guide you through the AWS ecosystem and help you choose the best solutions for your business needs.
Another key takeaway was the focus on AI and large language models. AWS is making it easier for developers to build AI solutions and for businesses to become more digital. AWS introduced new user-facing services, such as Amazon Q, which provides context-aware assistance for each AWS service, and AI-based auto-scaling for Redshift clusters. AWS also announced new infrastructure and software for training and using foundation models and large language models, such as new Nvidia chipsets, and new Amazon Bedrock features.
AWS is also investing in the AWS marketplace, introducing API development to accelerate partner integration, solutions to greatly improve software and solution deployment, and working with many vendors to push the AWS marketplace as the preferred route to market. As the leading solutions integrator, Insight is an AWS Marketplace Skilled Consulting partner, and can support our clients with Consulting Partner Private Offers to procure software and service through private AWS marketplace offers, providing optimised pricing and custom terms. Although the focus of the event was very much on AI, developers developing AI solutions, and marketplace, there were many ‘smaller’ announcements of enhancements driven by customer demand, showing what it means to be client obsessed. Some of these include:
● A major update to its S3 object storage service. This new high-performance and low latency tier for S3, called Express One Zone, offers a significant performance improvement for data-intensive applications, including AI/ML training, financial modelling, and high-performance computing.
● EC2 (Virtual Machine), R8g instances will deliver better price performance than any existing memory-optimized instance. U7i Instances for large in-memory databases, designed to handle large in-memory databases.
● Significant database services updates that allow for better scalability and cost optimization, paving the way to host data in public cloud and readying it for AI consumption.
AWS is focused on enabling clients to further optimize their public cloud investments, with more efficient and cost-effective workload options, making it easier to enable their business to become more digital through programs that help accelerate migrations and modernisation, and provide the platform and tools to accelerate change and innovation through data and AI solutions.
